Trying to
make money with your website can be overwhelming. It was for us at first.
Start off slow at first and test the waters with your audience. You can have
your own domain and put up your own writing for the public to read. Put a pay
per click ad on every page and you will be making money for everything you
write. Sell access to your website and make money for every reader you
get. Join affiliate programs and advertise affiliate products from
your website and you'll make money from every sale. So, many ways are there for
generating revenue from your Website!
MAKE MONEY
WITH YOUR WEBSITE
Charge for access. Does your website contain content or
information that people are willing to pay money for access to? If so, then you
can password protect part of your site and charge people a fee for access to
that information. Many companies use this approach. Part of their website is
free, but to access the majority of the information, you have to pay a fee.
Join
Pay Per Click (PPC) Programs. These are similar to banner advertising, except you only
make money if a visitor clicks on your sponsor's banner. There are restrictions
to this though, otherwise some people will abuse the system by just clicking
back and forth on the banner to register click throughs (CTRs). Usually, you are
paid by what is known as per "unique visitor" to the sponsor's Website. Some of
the well-known Pay Per Click (PPC) Programs are: Google Adsense, Yahoo Publisher
Network, Bidvertiser, Chitika, Clicksor etc.
Create a "For Sale" or
"Coming Soon" Parking Page. If you own domains that don't yet have websites
designed, you can create a page to offer the domain name for sale, or to let
customers know it is in development and "coming soon". When customers visit
these pages, they can be directed to links to similar sites. www.moniker.com
offers free parking pages.
Sell your Exit Traffic. When a customer
clicks on the little "x" at the top right hand corner of your website, dont
despair, send him/her to a complimentary website. Utilise an affiliate code or
arrange for a CPA (cost per acquisition) or CPL (cost per lead) reward for
customers that the destination site is able to convert.
Monetize RSS Feed
Ads. With
the quick adoption of the RSS technology by millions of Internet users, website
owners are starting to find ways to monetize this new content distribution
channel. Feedburber already has its own publisher network, and you can sign-up
to start displaying CPM based advertising on your feed footer. Bidvertiser
recently introduced a RSS feed ad option as well, with a PPC scheme. Finally,
some blogs are also opting to sell banners or sponsored messages on their feed
directly.
Place a "Donate" link. Placing a "Donate" link or button on a
website can be an efficient way to earn money, especially if your blog is on a
niche where readers learn and gain value from your content. Personal development
and productivity blogs, for instance, tend to perform well with donation based
systems.
Mentoring Programs. People are willing to pay for someone or
something that will teach them and give them knowledge as opposed to mere
information. Education is one of the biggest industries in the world, and the
online landscape behaves in a similar way. Creating a mentoring program related
to the niche of your website could be very profitable if you manage to structure
and promote it adequately. There is a wide range of media and tools that you can
use to deliver the information, from text articles to audio and video
lessons.
Sell Your Website. Selling your website could be your last
resource, but it has the potential to generate a big sum of money in a short
period of time. Market places on online forums like DigitalPoint and
Sitepoint are always active with website buyers and sellers. Some people also
make money trading and flipping websites. They either create them from scratch
or buy existing ones, and after some revamping they sell them for a
profit.
In-text Adverting. There are some in-text advertising networks
available on internet like Kontera, Vibrant Media, Infolinks etc. that allows
you to place textual ads with in your website/blog content. When a user rolls
over any of such link, an advertising pop-up box will open and when the user
clicks on these ads, website/blog owners are able to make some money online with
that click. There are some websites/ bloggers available on internet who
are able to make good amount of money with in-text advertising method.
Sell
your content. Your content may be available freely to everyone on the
Internet, but not everyone has access to the Internet You can try to sell your
stories or information to off-line magazines and publications.
Join
or conduct Surveys or Polls. You can conduct your own survey or poll and sell the
results to third parties that are interested in your visitors. Also there are
services that will pay you money to run a small survey or poll on your website.
The most popular one is called Vizu Answers. Basically you need to sign up with
them, and select the kind of polls that you want to run on your site. Most of
these services operate under a CPM model.
Sell E-mail
Lists. If
you have a guest book or a newsletter mailing list, you can create a database of
their names and e-mail addresses as well as those of your customers. Once you
have enough names, you can sell them on to direct marketers. Make sure that you
tell your customers their names and e-mail addresses may be rented to third
parties. Some people don't wish to receive third party advertising, so give them
an option to opt-out of this list.
Monetize Widgets. The latest trend on
the web are widgets that let you monetize your website. Examples include
Widgetbucks and SmartLinks. Some of these services operate under a PPC scheme,
others behave like text link ads, others yet leverage affiliate links. Their
main differentiator, however, is the fact that they work as web widgets, making
it easier for the user to plug and play the service on its
website.
Selling or Renting Internal Pages. Million Dollar
Wiki made this concept popular, but it was being used on the web for a long time
around. These websites sell for a single fee or rent for a recurring fee
internal pages on their domain. Usually they have either high Pagerank or high
traffic, so that people purchasing a page will be able to benefit in some
way.
Start Marketplaces. Sitepoint is the online marketplace by
excellence. Some websites and blogs, however, are trying to replicate that model
on a smaller scale. Depending on your niche, a market place that allows your
visitors to buy, sell and trade products could work well. Over the time you
could start charging a small fee for new product listings. The problem with this
method is that there are no standard software on the web, so you would need to
hire a coder to get a marketplace integrated into your
website.
Sell Pixels or Words on your Website. Do you remember the
man who sold a million pixels on a web page for a dollar each, in order to pay
for college and much more? Buyers got to advertise how they wanted with their
100 or 200 pixels space. The next incarnation was a buy-a-word site. Pay for a
word and it was linked the buyers website.
Sell Sponsored Content
Areas. In
many industries, companies would be willing to provide content such as articles,
online tools and functionality, in exchange for recognition and a link to their
website. For example on MSN, ESPN provides sports information and MSN BC
provides financial news.
Create a conference around the website. If your website takes
off and becomes an authority on its niche, you could create a conference around
it. Depending on the size of your audience, the event could attract thousands of
people, and you could make money directly from conference passes and
sponsors.
Sponsors for Single Columns or Events. If you website has
specific columns or events e.g. a weekly podcast, an interview series, a monthly
survey, a special project, you could find companies to sponsor them
individually. This method increases the monetization options for website owner,
while giving advertisers the possibility to target a more specific audience with
a reduced commitment.
Monetize Text Link Ads. Text Link Ads is the program that manage text
link sale. This program facilitates advertisers which pay money that aims to get
traffic and top searches at search engine. If you have a website/blog with good
page rank and decent Alexa rankings, you have a chance to make some money by
selling text link ads on your website/blog. There are some text link selling and
buying marketplace available on internet like Text-Link-Ads, TNX, Linkworth,
Linkadage etc that you can use for this purpose.
Start your own Affiliate
Program.
With your own Affiliate Program, you can recruit an army of people i.e your
affiliates who will recommend your product on their website for a percentage of
any sale they refer. You have the power to exponentially increase your income as
more and more affiliates sign up and you continue to teach your existing
affiliates how to increase their commission checks and also your
income.
Join Cost Per Action. There are numerous CPA affiliate networks
programs accessible online. All you have to execute is sign up with one of them,
and drive traffic to the parent website. You get paid when someone performs an
Action on your website such as filling out a form with their email address or
their zip code. The company paying for the CPA lead gets to market to that
person filling out the form and you get paid for bringing that person in as a
"lead" for the company to send their marketing advertisements out to
them.
Sell Ad Space on your Website. This has always been
a good money maker. The catch is that you need to build your website to such a
level where it brings in substantial traffic. Once your website has lots of
highly targeted traffic or a large targeted opt-in list, you may be able to sell
advertising. This in turn brings in advertisers who are willing to pay you to
display their ads on your website when they are being directed at large numbers
of their target market. Selling ad space can be a great additional profit stream
but it is unlikely to keep your business afloat on its own.
Start Sponsored Reviews
on your Website. PayPerPost started this model with much controversy on
the beginning. Soon other companies followed this, most notably Sponsored
Reviews and ReviewMe refining the process and expanding the paid blogging
model. Joining one of these sponsored reviews, marketplaces will give you
the opportunity to write sponsored posts on a wide range of topics. Not all
bloggers are willing to get paid to write about a specific product or website,
but the ones who do, are making good money out of it. If your blog has a big
audience you could also offer sponsored reviews directly, cutting off the
commissions of the middleman.
Join Affiliate Programs. On the Internet there
are lots of companies all around at this time, who are literally throwing away
cash to get customers to their sites and to promote their products and services
on your website. You do this by adding their advertising banners and text links
to your site. They are so called affiliate programs. Once a customer clicks on
an affiliate link on your site which takes them to the affiliate site, if he
then make a purchase at the affiliate site you earn commissions ranging from 3%
upto a massive 50% depending on which affiliate scheme you
join.
Play Audio Ads. Also called PPP (Pay Per Play), this
advertising method was introduced by Net Audio Ads. The concept is pretty simple
- play a small audio advertising, usually 5 seconds, every time a visitor enters
into your website. The user should not be able to stop it, creating a 100%
conversion rate based on unique visitors. The company is still rolling tests,
but some users are reporting to get from a $4 to a $6 CPM. Regardless of the pay
rate, though, this is a very intrusive form of advertising, so think twice
before using it.
Join Pop-ups and Pop-unders Programs. Pop-ups are a common
yet annoying form of advertising on the Internet. If you are just trying to make
a much money as possible from your website, you could experiment with them. If
you are trying to grow the traffic and generate loyal visitors, however, you
probably should stay away from them. Just consider the hundreds of pop-up
blockers out there: there is a reason why they are so popular. Ad networks that
use pop-ups are Tribal Fusion, PayPopup, PopupAd, Adversal.
Join CPM Advertising
Networks.
CPM (Cost per Mille) advertising networks behave pretty much as PPC
networks, except that you get paid according to the number of impressions i.e.,
page views that the ads displayed on your site will generate. It refers to the
cost for 1,000 impressions. CPM rates vary with the network, the position of the
ad and the format. The better the network, the higher the CPM rate, because they
have access to more advertisers. The closer you put the ad to the top of the
page, the higher the CPM. The bigger the format in terms of pixels, the higher
the CPM. You can get as low as $0,10 and as high as $10 per 1,000 impressions.
CPM advertising tends to work well on websites with a high page views per
visitor ratio e.g., online forums, magazines and so on. Popular CPM advertising
networks are Casale Media, Burst Media, Value Click, Advertising.com, Tribal
Fusion, Right Media.
Create a high demand Newsletter or E-zine. If you can provide in demand
and industry leading information on a monthly, bi-monthly or weekly basis, you
can sell subscriptions to a newsletter. Delivered via e-mail it costs nothing
but time to produce. In the same way as information products you can focus your
newsletter on just about any topic and find interested subscribers. Although it
is always best to concentrate on some area you have an interest yourself. So,
say you sell your subscription for a measly $5 a month and you have 500
subscribers that represents $2500 per month for a days work. Add to that the
possibility of selling advertising space in your newsletter and promoting your
affiliate programs and you have a very viable business. You will need a website
to attract subscribers and the facility to take credit card subscriptions
online. You should also offer automated delivery of the first newsletter when a
subscriber has paid.
